Aortic Valve Surgery
Heart valves allow blood to pass through the heart in one direction. They may be narrowed or leaking and may be repaired or replaced by mechanical or tissue (pig or cow) valves.
Bronchoscopy
Dr Fourie uses a bronchoscope to look at the vocal cords and airways. It will be passed through the mouth, down through the vocal cords and into the airways.
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
CABG surgery involves using veins from your leg or arteries from the inside of your chest (or sometimes from your arm) to bypass blockages in your coronary arteries.
Lung Decortication
This is a procedure to remove a thick peel/rind of fibrous tissue (cortex) from around the lung so that the lung can be free to expand when you inhale. This cortex forms due to infection, cancer or trauma.
InterCostal Drain Placement
An Intercostal drain is put between the ribs into the space located between the lung and the chest wall (pleural space). The chest tube drains air and fluid form that space.
Lung Resection
This is a procedure to remove a damaged or diseased portion of the lung.
Mediastinoscopy
Dr Fourie uses a mediastinoscope to look into the space behind your breast bone. This space is the centre of the chest inbetween the lungs and contain the heart its great vessels and lymphnodes
Mitral Valve Surgery

VATS Procedure
A Video Assisted ThoracoScopy (VATS) procedure is where a small, narrow instrument with a viewing camera is put into the chest cavity. This allows Dr Fourie to operate with-out making a large incision (key-hole surgery)
