Dr. Rentia Fourie is a Cardiothoracic surgeon. She completed her medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Pretoria in 2008 and qualified as a specialist in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the University of the Free State in 2017.

Dr. Fourie has been a Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Steve Biko Academic Hospital since 2018, managing the adult cardiac surgery service and concentrating on registrar training. The University of Pretoria also appoints her as a lecturer in Cardiothoracic Surgery. In 2021, she opened a part-time private practice at Mediclinic Vereeniging Hospital, focusing on adult cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, and intensive care. She is a member of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of South Africa and the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Dr. Fourie consults as an intensive care physician, tending to cardiothoracic surgery patients, other surgical patients and trauma patients. She spent two years as a fellow in Critical Care at Steve Biko Academic Hospital. She is a member of the Critical Care Society of Southern Africa.

Dr. Fourie is consulting on medico-legal cases and writing medico-legal reports. She is a member and registered practitioner of the South African Medico-Legal Association (SAMLA)

She has a keen interest in research and bioethics. She has been involved in several research projects, including a study involving patients from the Northern Cape with Malignant Mesothelioma. Dr. Fourie is enrolled in the MSc in Bioethics and Health Law course at the University of the Witwatersrand.

She is the author of the blog Heart On My Sleeve: Reflections of a Cardiac Surgeon.
